Migrated a high-traffic wrestling news site from WordPress to Next.js and Payload CMS — faster publishing, structured live results, and a frontend built for daily news velocity.
WrestlingWorld is a wrestling news and rumors destination covering WWE, AEW, TNA, NJPW, and more. The brand needed a site that could keep up with breaking stories, show results, and PPV schedules without fighting a heavy WordPress stack.
The previous WordPress build worked for publishing, but editorial workflows, plugin debt, and page weight made it harder to ship features cleanly — especially for structured modules like Quick Results, show tabs, and event calendars.
I rebuilt and continue to maintain the platform as a modern Next.js frontend powered by Payload CMS, so writers get a focused admin experience while readers get a fast, media-first homepage built for headlines, thumbnails, and scanability.
Design Approach
Migrated the content model from WordPress into Payload collections for news, shows, results, events, and related media. Built a Next.js frontend with a newsroom-style layout: featured hero, infinite-friendly feed, promotion filters, Quick Results by company/show, and a PPV schedule module. Preserved SEO-critical URLs and editorial habits where possible, then improved performance with static generation, caching, and leaner client UI for the high-traffic surfaces.
Final Outcome
Delivered a maintainable news platform that still feels like a wrestling media brand — faster to load, easier to extend, and structured for daily publishing. Live at wrestlingworld.co, with ongoing maintenance for content features, results workflows, and performance.
